I have, from what I can tell, a Marlin 1890, 30-30 lever action I am refinishing. The rifle has a broken firing pin and some odd cracks and dings in the stock. But for a gun made over 100 years ago the stock marks are a given. My main question is about the firing pin. Would the modern pins fit this gun or would I need to find one from an older production gun. Secondly if I found one I never took the gun apart, is the firing pin easy to change or should I take it to a smith? Thanks, Trevor.

Depending where it is broken, it might be repairable by a smith. If it's the tip, it can be built back up, machined, and re-hardened.

Are you sure that it's broken? Marlin 1893's have a safety feature of a 2 piece firing pin.

The rear portion "breaks" at the locking bolt recess and is held out of line by a spring. It is only "in line" when the locking bar raises to lock the bolt into battery.

Its a model 1890 not 1893. Not sure if they would be the same would they? I have no idea about the gun at all im a little stuck. Will disassemble later today and take a look but im not sure really.

I may be wrong but from the serial number and what i found it says model 1890.....

I'd send Western Gun Parts an email and ask if they have the part you're
looking for.
They might not send it to you if you're not a gunsmith, but at least you would
know availability.

Might be some info here for you?
It's a bit dated, but useful.
Just take out the space.

Does anyone know where I could get a firing pin from? I checked at brownells and numrich, both have them but shipping here is a bit ridiculous. Anyone know where in Canada would have them? Thanks

As mentioned, Wester Gun Parts is in Canada and will have 93 pins in stock. You may have to go through your local gunsmith to order though - they only sell to business accounts.
