Anybody here own a Marlin model 1893?

Need some help and also an exploded view of one.

This one is a T/D model in 30-30 made in 1907 and in really nice shape I think for it's age. Just don't know how to work the take down feature. I've got the guts ripped out of it and wanna put it back together now as well. It had a stuck casing in it and I got it out with out a hitch but now I'm a dumb ass and have to put it back together.:(
 
Here's what she looks like without the butt stock, not bad huh? Octagon 26" barrel, same sights as an 1899. Just learned how to take it down, kinda easy once you do it. Now, whats the value on these suckers?

Looks like a nice one MadDog :cool: Its hard to put a price on these in Canada IMHO. There's not as much of a following as Winchester for sure and probably even Savages are more popular to collectors. State side, different story.

The Blue book says$625 for 50%, $1050 for 70%, up to $2500 for 95%. add 15 to 20% for the takedown model. I don't see them command that much up here.

For instance I've got my eye on the same rifle, similar vintage but not in take down. This one is dinged up quite a bit more, a bit of pitting on the outside and has an improper screw through the action. It has an excellent bore however which is rare, :) and obviously hasn't seen much or any black powder. I can get it for $450 and may just...

Is there much or any case colour left? How's the bore? Is the rear stock as clean as the forestock? We need with pics with this darlin together my man. :D

I got it back together with no problem what so ever once I figured out the take down feature, it's as easy as taking a piss and very smooth.

Salty, after I read your reply I had a look down the bore, could see alot of rifling but dirty.

Just didn't know HOW dirty, I've been out in the garage for the last 1 1/2 hours running outers through it, haven't had a clean patch come out yet but it's getting there, the gun was made in 1907 and I don't think it's been cleaned since then. Got it out there sitting in some penetrating oil right now loosening it up. I don't see any pitting yet but I don't have it entirely down to the lands yet. Wish me luck, I'll post a pic of the bore when I'm done.

This is too much fun MadDog. Will she clean up to be a rare beauty barrel or will she be a little, well, used? :D If you haven't seen anything obviously nasty already it'll be if nothing else a good shooter me thinks:cool:
 
That's a good looking gun Joe!
Another of the guns I let go many years ago :rolleyes: was a 38-55 Marlin T/D. It had a nice bore which is hard to find in that caliber too!
In fact I can't even remember how the T/D worked :rolleyes: but I do remember it was quirky!
Value on that one should be quite respectable, but if I was you I' keep it, it's nice to have a variation of old guns :)

Such a deal for you my friend. I've got a Savage semi auto .22 with the 10 shot clip. It shoots like a house on fire. As long as you only load about 5. Well actually the last one usually jams but its a dandy shooter. Just taped up the crack in the stock and it ain't goin anywhere.:cool: I'll trade you straight across for that old Marlin there. :D
 
Well these are the best my little camera can do, what do the pro's say? I think there might be a tad bit more of gunk in there but got about 95% of it out in just one night.;)

Well she's all back together and cycles really nice, got some of that Wipe out stuff Dan told me about and you should see the way it cleaned out that barrel. Did it twice and it's shining now. After I put it back together it cycles as easy as pie, The barrels a good 90%+ on the blue and the reciever still holds about 30-40% case color.

Nice rifle Maddog. I think I found my favorite (octagon barrels) Someone posted a picture of a ruger #1 (with sweet wood that gave me wood) with an octagonal barrel on it. Noice. What was (or what would be) the advantage of octagonal barrels?
