marlin 1894 38-55 question

Happy to add...I carried my old 38-55 Sav 99 one day this deer hunt & put a 220 horn thru both lungs of an 8pt buck with it! No mess & the deer went down within 50' of shot! K Waters standard 38-55 load was 35 gns of 3031 w/ a 255 gn bullet. If memory serves me correctly  I used 36 or 37 gns of 3031 with horns 220gn bullet for a velocity of probablt 18-900fps. I am very fortunate in that Sav 99s in 38-55 do tend to have tight barrels handling standard .375 bullets extremely well :)

I think you'll find that modern factory rounds from Winchester are loaded to black powder specs in the 38-55.
That is NOT to say that all facory stuff is. But most are pretty anemic, when compared to what the cartridge is capable of.
If you get the rifle checked out, I think you'll be ok with the factory stuff, as long as it's within reason.
