Is someone here shooting cast lead boolits in their Marlin 44 mag micro grove barrels with good velocity and accuracy? I have lee and lyman boolits. I can get good accuracy by only a low velocity. Unique and Clays work great for these.

But is micro grove and fast lead boolits a contradiction? By fast I mean 1600 to 1800 fps with 200 and 240 grain wheelweight projectiles....

????

Am I asking the right questions? and if not, what should my questions be/

I've shot cast out of .444 with micro groove, @ 1700 fps with very good results. Rifle liked them hard so I got my best results with water quenched wheel weights. Unsized and fairly heavily tumble lubed
 
Yes ,they recommend hard cast with GC and 2 thou oversized.I have a early straight stocked 1895 pre cross- bolt safety micro-groove 45-70...........Harold
 
I shoot cast out of my 1978 Marlin 336 in .30-30 with good results. If I'm loading above 1400fps I use gas checks, and I try and keep my alloy on the harder side.
 
The trick is as others have mentioned, hard cast and at least 2 thou oversize with a good lube and you should be just fine.

Not sure of the speed because it is 30 grn under normal weight for a .444 Marlin and near max with IMR3031 but I can tell you it did hell on a moose last fall. The trajectory really flattens out with this speed and weight and it acts more like a .308 only a heck of a lot more power.
