What year did Marlins go to hell? I have never owned one although I have owned many Winchester 94's and a few Rossi Puma's. I ordered a Marlin 1894 from Epps off their used rack, it dates to 2001. It showed up today and I have to say I'm really impressed. Its got a very slick action and a very nice creep free trigger, much better then any Winchester I have ever seen. It has rawhide wrapped around the lever so maybe someone has had work done to it. I can't wait to get it out to the bush, I think Marlin has won me over.

Sounds like you might have gotten somebody slicked up cowboy shoooter!
Nice score!
They went to hell about 3 or 4 years ago after Remington's parent company bought them in 2008 I believe.

I was thinking that too. Here she is.

You'll really like that leather on the loop. I don't have my loop covered and it gets to my hand after while.

Looks good Primus! Now that I think about it I don't think many of the carbines get used for cowboy action because they hold less then 10 but it's possible someone slicked it up anyways or it was just a smooth one from the get go!

I had misgivings about the Marlin so the day after I ordered it I saw a Ruger 44 carbine on Epps site, I have that one coming too. I guess my hankering for a pistol carbine will be satisfied now.

I bought mine (1894 CB in 357) last year for Cowboy shooting. It has worked flawlessly, although I had to do some minor tinkering with it out of the box.

Overall, I would buy another one if I had to and will be the first to recommend to purchase to anyone - even with those annoying flaws.
