* Kind of long winded so if you are lazy/ don't care, scroll down for the pictures.
So I have been trying to find a large loop lever for my 1895 in 45-70 for a while now. Even with thin mechanics gloves the stock loop is a tight squeeze, and I would like to be able to shoot it comfortably if its -20 and snowing.I know that Marlin makes the GBL model now, but I bought mine a few years ago before that/the plant closed down and QC went through the floorboards. Wild West Guns makes the loop but won't ship to Canada, and Brownells won't ship either. After contacting a number of shops I finally found one that could import it. Until they learned that they needed all kinds of paperwork and forms from the US State Department. On top of that the loop would have been basically $250 shipped to me...
So today I bought a used 336BL ( after it was looked over by a gunsmith) and switched the loop over myself. The whole gun was $450, which makes me feel crazy for almost paying half that for the loop itself.
I was originally planning on selling the 30-30, but I think I will keep it
Just thought that anyone looking for one, this is an alternate way plus you get another gun out of it.. win win am I right
Here are the pictures.
