Marlin 1895 45-70 info needed

Boo, how much 4198 did you use with bullets of plus 400?.

44 1/2 grains in my 22" barreled Marlin produces just a hair under 1900 fps with 400 grain jacketed bullets. I did go as high as IMR's maximum Marlin load of 46 grains and just broke 2000 fps. The recoil however was VERY snappy! LoL I don't need the extra 100 feet per second that bad! LoL

Using 50 grains of IMR 4198 under the 350 grain Hornady RN breaks 2100 fps in the same rifle but once again recoil catches your attention. I have them now throttled back to ~1900 fps and the rifle is more fun to shoot.

31 grains of IMR 4198 under some "Bullet Barn" 405 grain gas checked cast 405 grain bullets gets ~1400 fps and is a very pleasant to shoot.

SWEET!!

who is selling them???? whole sale sports seems to be right out to lunch lately:rolleyes:

I got these from msg.drew a dealer here on the board.

58.0 grs 3031 behind a 350 Hornady RN @ 2150 or so will handle most anything. 40.0 grs 3031 for a 460 (yeah, 460) gr TSX will end to end a buffalo, but you gotta make your own from 500's to tube feed them.

Jae Bok Young casts 550gr "crater" bullet made for the 1895 Marlin, (I have a bunch of these made up and they shoot great in my 1895G)

Beartooth bullet, 525 "pile driver" also made for 1895 Marlins

Cheers

I have found that IMR 4198 has produced the best results for me over a wide range of bullet weights.

They are already here ................

got mine as well... tested them out and I'm pleased to be reloading with these babies. WEEEEEEE

But I also use some cast bullets that we make here at home. I was using varget at one time but I can't remember the load, it was nice and accurate though. I think around an inch and a half at 100 yards using a 420 grain bullet.
