Marlin 1895 Guide Gun

Hello Folks,
has anybody bought one of these lately.
Has quality and finish improved. I looked at one at a gun shop 2 years ago and the finish as well as the action and trigger were dreadful.
I would really like to get one that is nice. It would suit my needs perfectly.

Please let me know your take on it.

They still seem hit and miss i have a remlin thats been great but i had to return the first 2 i had

The quality left a lot to be desired a couple of years ago after they moved the production to Ilion New York, however the 2013 and 2014 manufactured guns are a lot better. I have had both pre-Remlin Marlins and both 2013 and 2014 models.

For Remlin guns the 2 letter code on the left side of the barrel just in front of the receiver indicates the date of manufacture.
The first letter is the month using B-L-A-C-K-P-O-W-D-E-R-X as the code. B=Jan. L=Feb. A=Mar. ETC.

The second letter is the year F=2009 E=2010 F=2011 G=2012 H=2013 I=2014
Using this code, my SBL (code PH) was made in June. 2013

The right side says REP indicating barrel made by Remington.

I just picked up an 1895GBL and have no complaints.
