I have completly dissassmbled the mag tube and and made sure it was functioning . it is actually jamming the shell cockeyd half in the chamber or it is not even letting the shell get into the elevator and jamming the lever open.
All I can say is that i am not impressed with this rifle ,
"Cuda, I had this same issue occur on my 336 in 30-30. I was at the range one day and a round jammed while in the process of loading from the mag to the chamber. I had to shut down what I was doing, safety the weapon, pull the lever out and take half the action apart to get the round out safely...all on a range table (range=gravel pit).
Issue seemed to be:
1) I wasn't cycleing the weapon fast enough or hard enough. These levers are meant to be moved with determination.
2) The spring in the mag had compressed, thus weakening over time. When I had it apart, I noticed that it wasn't doing it's job at pushing the rounds out far enough when I got down to the last one or two in the mag. Fix: I pulled the spring apart (like a slinky) in my arms and jammed it back down that mag. It's been fine ever since.
3) I THOROUGHLY disassembled and cleaned the action. Every piece came out, got a good wash, wax, and buff with the best solvents and oils a Marlin owner can buy. I think the loading spring may also have needed tightening (where the bullets get loaded into the mag) and if it was loose, it exerts force on the rounds as they travel from the mag to the breech.
Well, as I said, once I completely tore it down, cleaned any dirt or obstructions from all the moving parts, oiled it up and put all the pieces back together again, it's performed flawlessly since. In fact, it's the 'arm I took my first buck with last fall!
I also recommend the Marlin Owners site. It helped me a whole lot in getting to know my 336.
Good luck!
