Hi, I was just wondering what are some good choices for optics on the marlin 1895 sbl in 45/70?
Reflex/ reddot or a low powered scope?

How does zero hold up to a big bore?

Any pics of what fellow members use?

I used a Burris 2.75x20 scout on mine. Sold the rifle (kicking myself daily) and the scope now sits on a Ruger gsr. Holds zero just fine and survived the 45-70 punishment.

Leupold FX-II 2.5x20mm Ultralight is probably the best choice for that rifle... but the VX-2 1-4x20 or VX-3 1.5x20 would not be far behind.

Cabela's 45-70 Scope works just fine. 3x - 9x 40mm and Configured for Hornady LEVERevolution ammunition in .45-70 using the 325-gr. bullet.

The See-Thru rings are a must IMO.

Me favorite scope for bush work is the old K2.5 Weaver with post/crosshair reticle.

I like a good 1-4x24 on a woods rifle as well, like me fresh Bushnell unit w/illuminated dot G4 reticle that I put on me 9422.

Is there any difference between Cabela's .30-30 version and their .45-70 version? From what I see on their website, the reticles are identical. I have a Marlin 1895 in .45-70, but they only have .30-30 scopes left in stock, hence my question.

Scope eye...

Skinner peep sight. No glass to break or fog up.
No cheek riser needed. I just got a bit of adhesive backed felt from Michael's for comfort.

I went with the XS sight.
