is there anyone in canada that sells these, with the 16.5" barrel.

looking for a bear defense gun.

nd it is illegal to shorten one to this length in canada
 
Marlin made special runs for Davidsons guns LTD's, STP's exc. You would have to ask Prophet River Firearms if they could import one in for you. I would love to have one, But I'll have to stick with my 1895gs for now.

Wrong on both counts. I have an STP that was a special import from the US. Please read the regulations on rebarreling a rifle. It is entirely possible to rebarrel to 16.5 and make an STP. Not sure where you are getting your info...but....
 
Marlin does (or did) special runs for Cabelas in the US too, such as a nice .410 lever.
Do you think Cabelas Canada would ever get something like this? No chance in hell...
Pity, it'd be a a nice change from the overpriced 4th rate Fudd crap that most gun stores in Canada carry.

Who would you recommend to rebarrel one, that may be easier.

getting anything marlin right now is tough everything is back ordered for months now because of the whole remington buy out and factory moved....I am looking for an 1895 cowboy 45-70 but no luck :(
