Marlin 1895 Trapper

Interesting decision to go with no optic mount, I guess they wanted to make it different from the SBL, I wonder what the stock is made out of?

The receiver is has 4 holes drilled and tapped, could mount a pic rail and optic or mount the longer XS rail system. Personally I dont think you can beat those skinner sights.

Cheers!!

I took mine out this morning and sighted it in while I was running some bear bait. 53 grains of h4895 behind a 405 hardcast put five rounds into 1.75”. That’s far from proper load development but it’ll work for this month. It loads, feeds and ejects perfectly. I don’t like that big loop lever but that’s a minor nitpick and easy to change. The skinner sight works very well, better IMO then the XS peep with a fiber optic front sight.

I just got the gbl on friday. Itching to go shoot it

My stainless Marlin 1895GS with full powered loads is a handful for a small stature person even with a sissy pad and a trimmed LOP.
My roll yer owns are pushing a 405 grain Woodleigh Weldcore approx 1925 fps.

That is a serious load.

Which powder are you burning?

H4198 and IMR-3031 are my favorite 45-70 powders for the Marlin 1895GS.
I have a plinking load I make with 405 grain cast bullets and Red Dot pistol powder.
Quickload predicts my max pressure around 39,900 psi which is in the safe range of Group II 45-70 loads.
Fired primers have lots of "round" left, easy extraction of fired cases and after firing measurements indicate minimal "brass flow" (case stretching in either direction).
