Ok so I have a newer Marlin cowboy 45/70
2004 vintage i believe, the trigger pull was HEAVY , so I ordered an aftermarket trigger from Ranger Point precision , having heard good things about them I expected to have about a 3 to 4 lb trigger after the install but NOT , Trigger is as heavy as it ever was ? So what am I missing here ? Is it because my hammer spring is to strong ? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks .

Hammer spring is the "weight of pull " adjuster to a certain extent there is also a small "trigger return spring" that might be too strong as well so an adjustment might be needed there as well. As well there might be a bit more of a "positive" engagement angle between the trigger & hammer notch, if there is a discernible "hammer back up" when you pull the trigger that might need attention as well but should be done by someone with a sear-notch filing jig...a couple more stone pass's than necessary can easily result in a negative engagement that is very much unsafe.

One thing to be aware of tho when setting the main spring for "hammer weight" , by the time you get it to where you want it, the hammer might not fire the primers you are using, my personal 1895 will only fire Federal primers consistently but the trigger pull is exactly where I want it.

You talking the flat wire type spring that pushes in when the lever is fully engaged ? Because that spring is pretty strong , there is a small loop that does rest against the trigger , should I attempt to bend it upwards slightly?
