marlin 1895g - Accuracy Potential?

So I just picked up a 2005 Marlin 1895 guide gun in 45-70 (18 1/2" barrel, ballard rifling).

Having never owned one before, I was wondering about the accuracy potential of the rifle (I don't expect this to be a sub-moa gun, just want to know what I should be shooting for with handloads - pun very much intended).

Also, the manuals I have (Hornady and Lyman) don't give any info specific to the guide gun - I was wondering if anyone had any pet loads for shooting cast in this gun specifically (looking to work up some plinking loads and some hunting loads).

Some limiting factors on accuracy with this rifle......a) sights...factory sights will hamper your shooting on paper at 100yds, a scope would be best for group size, but the best compromise is a good peep sight set-up like Skinner Sights.
b)recoil.....when using heavy loads, recoil will come into play when trying to shoot small groups.
c) Trigger....the factory trigger is kinda tough and doesn't help shooting small groups.
The Marlin '95 is a hunting gun, in a powerful cartridge, and not really the type of gun one would use for shooting small groups.
 
Thanks ben! Like I said, I'm not expecting this thing to be a tack driver or a benchrest gun. It's a bush gun, that's what I got it for. However, as I don't own a chrony yet and have only been loading my own for about 6 months - group size is what I've been going by to see if my loads are in the right ballpark for whatever rifle I'm loading. As for recoil....If I can't shoot it consistently, I don't want it and won't have it for long. If that means using lighter loads, then I'm ok with it.

Been looking at the skinner sights for this and my rossi 92. Definitely something I'm thinking about getting.

I picked up a few boxes of Leverevolution today and put a limbsaver pad on it - going to the range tomorrow and we'll see how things go. (Picked up some factory loads just to try it out - if I like the gun, handloads will be in the works in short order.)

I'm pretty new to handloading, not new to shooting - so if I'm out to lunch on anything please don't hesitate to say so.

According to a sales person at Edmonton Cabela's last week they have had several incidents reported of magazine chain fires with the leverevolution ammo?Harold

Details? Any recalls? Were they reloads, softer that factory spec primers, etc.

No offense but a third person report on the internet of what a gun shop "guru" may have said cannot really be taken as gospel.
