Just wondering if anyone would know a place where I could purchase this rifle and also have the barrel ported at the same dealer? I found a few places with them in stock, but after I pay shipping to get the gun to me and then to a gunsmith and back again it will be $100+. Appreciate any help.

Epps sells them, and could port it, do a trigger job or whatever else you wanted before they ship it out.

Unless you have experience with a ported or braked barrel already, I would really recommend you try one before jumping into having it done on your new rifle. The increased muzzle blast is something you should be aware of. I bought a Marlin Guide Gun only AFTER they stopped porting them...as much as I liked the gun otherwise, my previous experience with porting (MagnaPort) kept me away from the original, ported Guide Guns. On the other hand, if you don't mind the noise, finding one of those on the used market might make good sense for you.

I had an 1895gbl I found the recoil to be very manageable, I reluctantly sold it to a good friend who has a much lighter frame than I do and he had no problem either, the noise would bother me more than the recoil, I would definitely shoot it first, it comes with a good recoil pad.

I have had a few guns with muzzle brakes, only have 1 left and that's because it's just so bloody accurate. But I would take recoil over muzzle blast every time even with my guide gun. That huge noise is just too much, I would go with a good recoil pad instead.
