Marlin 1895SBL owners- any problems?

Hey Y'all,
I'm looking to purchase a Marlin 1895SBL but I've heard there might be some issues from the factory? I haven't heard about any specific problems but the gun counter guy at a retailer I won't name right now said something about some rifles in the back that were there for warranty issues. If you have any feedback on your experiences or someone you know who is having problems I would appreciate knowing about it before I drop a pile of cash.

I was lucky enough to land one early this fall but never had a chance to shoot and sight it in until yesterday afternoon.
My setup has a forward mounted Burris scout scope (2.5x) and I replaced the factory trigger with a Wild West Guns happy trigger kit. I also polished the innards while I had it apart. I was using factory Leverevolution 325gr. and shooting off a Caldwell lead slead.
1st shot at 25yds was off the paper. Brought it in to 10yds, scored and readjusted. Moved out to 25yds-3 in the bull.
Moved to 100yds. 1st shot was on the horizontal, 3" right of the bull. Readjusted. Next 4 shots all touching, ~=1" group within the bull!! I was giggling like a school girl.

I had also shot my 20+ year old 1895SS in 45/70 before the SBL. The SBL functioned flawlessly. I'm really impressed with the accuracy. Also, for comparisons sake I'd say the SBL build quality is far better than my 1895SS. Stout as hell, loads, feeds and cycles smoothly. Its a GREAT package. Marlin got it right with this one.
I visit the Marlin Owner Forum regularly and I have not read a -ve report on the SBL.

(FYI. in the spring, Marlin will be offering a blued version like the SBL with a brown laminated stock. Price is supposed to be considerably lower)

my buddies still looking for one. only problem i've heard about, is trying to
find one. this remington thing has really slowed them down.
 
Ya I was only able to get the 1895SBL at Shotoers Choice in Waterloo, called all over different places to try to get it somewhere else.

As it was more money from waterloo.
But no dealers could even give me an actually date of when Remington would be shipping it.

So i just grabbed it from Waterloo.
No sight on it yet, but I shot it quite well at fifty yards with no sight.
Going to try it on the 25 yard on Saturday to see if I can get a good groupping

Burnsy56 I took your example and ran with it. I knew Wholesale Sports in Calgary had at least one, because it was on the rack at Russell Sports just before they closed and transfered all the stock. They infact had 4 of them so I checked them all out and put a deposit on the one I liked the best!:dancingbanana:

I'm really looking forward to getting it home and to the range for break-in. I need to find out how to strip it down so I can give it a good clean, and what to polish internally.

It was interesting getting to handle several of them at once, while the one I chose has a nice clean trigger break, they aren't all like that. Different smoothnesses to the actions too.

If mine shoots as well as what you have described I'll be thrilled, although I don't plan on scoping it, as it's primary duty will be camping and hiking protection.

Here's a guy on marlin owners with multiple issues with his SBL. This is a bit scary. I am looking to buy one as well but it makes me think that perhaps I should wait another year for the problems to be ironed out (if they ever will with Remmy takeover). Incidentally, there will be a blued version coming out too sometime in spring. I reeeeally like this one but I am debating which one I like more, the silver or the blue. Anyone else with issues to report? Who carries the SBL? I really want one.

Shooters Choice in Waterloo lists SBL at $1350 :)eek:) and Ellowood Epps lists one at $1135. I think it is still way too pricey. Our US friends are talking about SBL at US$900 with taxes, shipping etc. and GBL to be roughly at around $500-$600 :dancingbanana: which I think in Canada it will translate to at least $800.:kickInTheNuts:
