Marlin 22 cocking issue

I have an 89c, with magazine and peep sights. Super accurate gun but maybe not the most reliable. I remember that happening to me, but I can't remember exactly what caused it.
You know how to field strip it? Remove from the stock, take the cocking handle off then remove the cap off the back of the receiver by pushing in the two little plungers at the back of the receiver in and everything comes out the back. Take note of the order of the springs and bolt and firing pin.
Maybe just dirty or gunked up??
A little spring for the safety broke in mine but I haven't sourced a new one yet. I have a cutaway picture but I can't remember how to upload pics from my PC, I'll add it later from my phone. Pic is an 88, which is tube mag, but bolt, trigger safety all the same.

Well I suggest you don't punch out every pin and take out every screw and remove all of the parts to clean it...
