Marlin 308 Express

Its al quite simple folks, all gun manufactures have to create a stir for those big Gun shows. I dont really care for the Marlin 308 express but I like that they are trying to create a buzz in the market at least. They had to follow up on their soft tipped ammo hype to keep things moving for them. Iam scared however to see what will come out next from some of these guys. Maybe yet another 300 mag of some sort  or the new & improved 303 Savage express;)

There are some that would say the .303 Savage didn't ever need to be improved:) Savage was ahead of most to make a lever that would handle pointed bullets. Seems like the tube fed lever crowd are just scrambling to keep an inferior design alive:bangHead:

Maybe so, but if I absolutely need to have better ballistic performance, I can always grab one of my scoped bolt guns. Some of us like that nostalgic feel so to speak, and that's why we chose on certain days to hunt with a tube fed lever gun, or an open sighted smoke pole. Then one's choice of weapon brings on certain limitations which force you to rely on some of your more primal instincs and skills. Some days, I just don't like to have all the advantages. :)

If you want that nostalgic feel, pick a lever gun with a wood stock and a blued action and barrel ;) :D

Stainless, laminated with open sights doesn't make it nostalgic :p :D

Just razzin ya gitrdun :dancingbanana:. I guess the turdy turdy part has "some" nostalgia to it

Yeah, I guess you're right about the stainless, laminate part Dave. Just like a magpie, I like bright and shiny stuff. :D

Hey gitrdun! I have no problem with you getting a nostalgic feel with your dirty thirty, but you better do it with your eyes closed or you might loose that primal feeling:D

My problem is with with combining nostalgia with a calibre such as the .308 Marling Express! As the article says: The Marlin Express
A new cartridge takes lever-action rifles to a higher level.

Read the article! There is nothing nostalgic about the expectation of a 400 yard plus game gun! Whats next? A nostalic old lever in .300 Ulra Mag?

or better still, a scope sighted long bow with primer and smokless powder assist that would propell a shaft with a Barnes tripple shock head?

My idea of nostalgia was only taking it to a certain level. Simply put, using a lever gun with open sights and a caliber of old. Ok, it's stainless and does have a laminate stock. I also wasn't planning on going barefoot and using a club. Perhaps I need to explain the difference between nostalgic and primitive?

Exactly...thus my quote:

Anyways...back to the .308 Marlin Express or whatchmacallit. Sorry if I was the one to take this off topic.

It's an unsuccessful idea tried before by Winchester. Marlin will fall face first in the mud with this one.

Wow, I guess Marlin should have given you a call before they departed on this foolish venture. ;)

Ya there's been a few discontinued lever cartridges before; 307 win, 356 win, 375 win but I'd hardly say anyone 'fell on their face'. Any of the above that come up in the EE are gone quickly if the price is near reasonable in my experience. Being that these all fall on the 30-30 platform Marlin or Winnie didn't have to spend #### all to give these chamberings a try and sell the few tens of thousands of pieces that they did before they discontinued the line. I don't see that the Marlin's had to do much to chamber the new 308 either. And personally I think Hornaday will be much more commited to the sucess of the 308 Marlin than Winchester or Remington have been to various cartridges that they've dumped ad they are (were?) more rifle companys as apposed to ammo companys.
