I just bought a Marlin MXLR rifle yesterday. I plan to get my hunting license this summer and hopefully go hunting this fall. This is a used rifle but in great condition. I am really stoked!! Because it is a tubular fed rifle,:D:D it requires 308 Marlin Express soft tipped ammo. Does anyone in Ontario know where I can get this ammo? I have checked the local gun shop and Can. Tire, Canada Ammo, SFRC, and other online suppliers. Out of thirteen rifles and handguns I own, this is most awesome and I can't take my eyes off of it or stop talking about it. I need ammo!!

Try calling Goble's, they usually have a decent supply of ammo, but they were the ones that suggested staying away from the 308me as ammo is limited and availability will only get worse as its such an unpopular round.

You got a great rifle ,you got also a great cartridge. Practice with it,,, oil it just because its stainless it still requires oiling from time to time

Ammo is around ,the 160 ftx or lipstick bullets are around in western Canada but that gun needs a 140 grain Monoflex bullets Cabelas in Sask and Winnipeg has these shells .

Those 160 grain ftx are to fragile for my liking

I looked at buying one and was advised to buy all the ammunition I found because I was going to need it for reloading. Its a nice looking gun but I think you bought some one elses problem

Should've bought another caliber. 308MX is pretty much commercially dead.

You sure about that ? Marlin ( Remington) canned the 338marlin express line in favor of the 308 marlin express line as it's a bigger seller, especially south of the border. It may not be popualr up here as everyone thinks owning a magnum round is needed, but it's big seller in the US and that's what matters. I picked up a 308mx rifle in Feb, and I'm glad I did. Brand new orignal Marlin factory made one, not the Remington made one.

As for ammo both Hornady and Remington make the ammo for it, Hornady is my favorite. Lebarons, Bass Pro Shop, Ellwood Epps, Sail all stock this ammo. You might also want to try Shooters Choice, Triggers and Bows or Lake Huron Rod and Gun for ammo. Lebarons and Sail sell the Hornady 160gr for around $29 a box. I bought 4 boxes as I still have to go sight in the rifle but those stores keep it instock if not it's re ordered.

I had a 308MX and a 45-70 Marlin 1895. I like a big, fat bullet, so I kept the 45-70. The 308 went with a couple of boxes of Hornaday Leverrevolutions. The new owner loves them and bought a lot more. I believe they are the only pointed bullet that can be used on a tubular magazine. Much higher muzzle velocity and they don't damage a lot of meat.
