It's fair to ask for as much as you'd like, and then settle for whatever is enough for you, if you can get it. Lever-action is a bit fashionable these days and absent current production and the uncertainty whether Ruger will make their Marlins seem ...authentic? ... enough for potential buyers, many sellers are seeking a big premium for that brand.
I'm happy with my 1894 made by Remington but I understand the appeal an old JM has for some people and that they won't settle for anything else.

I'd be surprised if the new ones coming from Ruger are under a grand..... if it's a nice old classic Marlin I think Looky's price would be a pretty quick sale!
Not sure what the C19 double brown thing is referring to except maybe that his estimate is on the low side.... beater 336's are being listed for around $550 these days.

Seen them sell for $850 in excellent shape,I can remember buying one new at crappy tire years ago $379.99 on sale ,came with a 4x bushnell scope mounted .times changed a bit since then lol.
