I have an opportunity to pick up one for $250. Any personal experiences and advise would be great. Thanks in advance.

Pre 2009 which is what I had, and sold for more than that, are great rifles.

Around that time however there seemed to be a huge downturn in quality out of the Marlin levers.

The older ones are awesome rifles. For that price I wouldn't hesitate.

If it's in any kind of shape, it could very well be the best priced one on here yet.
Not too often they are listed for under $300 and if so, they are snapped up quickly.
Go on'er if it's in any kind of shooting shape.

Even if you end up mot liking it, I think you'd easily break even on it in the future.

I've got one myself, and haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but it's a beauty to sit and look at :D

So thanks everyone, I bought it :). Can't wait to shoot it. It even came with the scope. Thought it was just irons. Any Idea about cost on the williams peep sights I am hearing so much about??

Get it up here on photos.
Not sure if a Williams FP 94-36 will fit or not.
Got one of them here.
PM me if your interested.
Be willing to bet you will like this lever.
Smooth action, great feed and the trigger is just about right.
Cheers.
Looky.

At that price I'd have bought it if it appeared to be in good serviceable condition, and I don't even want one. I hope it works out well for you.

Rem700J,
I've had a Marlin 336 in 30-30 since the seventies.
It's a great rifle - smooth operation and real easy carrying,
fits like a glove! + Ammo is available everywhere.
