Out at the gopher patch, having some fun. Decided to bring out my new toy; a 1972-built Marlin 336, with some handloaded 165-grain cast lead backed by 16 grains of 4198.

It got the message!

Well over the 100-yard mark, iron sights braced off the doorframe, one shot kill. I'd like to be humble and say it was a fluke, but this levergun is a laser at range; 6 dead gophers at distances only slightly less than this one.

Hard time hitting them up close, absurdly; one shot to blow the above bugger's head off at 100+, 3 shots to hit one at less than 20 yards... go figure. :p

nice. i was just out shooting gophers with my 308. the fmj look like a 22lr hit it. but those if you shoot one with a hp there aint nothin left of the gopher. lol.

I took a ground hog at the range with a 4570 405gr soft point. He crossed half the range stopped looked at me and I swear he said "oh ####". His nose fell to the shot and that was the end. My fav rifle is a 2506 75gr vmax at 3500fps. Turns em ta mist
