Okay, my memory must be fading.... I'm getting old. :runaway:

Many years ago (could be decades), Marlin made a .30-30 in likely a 336C or something like that, but it had a STRAIGHT lever like the 1895's and 1894's.

Can anyone recall this Marlin model number or code ?

I remember that I liked it's looks, but could not afford one at the time. Now that I'm working loading chairlifts at Blue Mountain, I can search for this model.

Cheers,
Barney

Like this? It's called the RC.

Here's a pic of my Marlin model 336LTS. Does the "L" stand for "light" or "little" since it has a 16" tube? Anybody know?

I'm going to guess the L is for 'Limited' because of the short barrel Whelen B

RC means regular carbine. It has a full length magazine. Then there's the SRC (short regular carbine) which has a mag shorter than the barrel.

pharoah, do you know the date of manufacture of your rifle? If not what are the first two numbers in the serial number? No other letters than RC? Don't believe I know what exactly your rifle is. All the RC rifles I've seen have a pistol grip too:confused:

Sorry boys, but she's RC through and through. I looked up the year once, I think it was 50-60 ish. Anyway's the first two are "Z1" I knew she was a rare bird. When I called the shop to see if they had any used 30-30's, I was doing so just to look. When i came upon this, I never saw a straight grip either, but knew I had to have it. I didn't have te cash, but I traded a .300 WSM in good conscience. I never liked it anyways, and I didn't want this one to slip away. The next time I'm fooling around with my buddies digital, I'll snap a photo of the barrel stampings.

Just a quick add on here, from my foggy memory, I believe the Texan model(TS?) generally came with a 18.5 inch barrel. Never saw one with a hooded ramp, plus as stated earlier by someone, the magazine tube was slightly shorter than the barrel.
More like the present Winchester Trapper style of a simpler design in regards to the front sight.
Some were made as early as the 1950s....

Interesting! Ya some more pics would be great. She's a keeper

How about the new 336XLR, the longer 24" barrel squeezes every bit of velocity out of the 30-30. Combined with the Hornady Leverevolution ammo, I think that Marlin breathes new life into the old 30WCF. Mine shoots a 1 1/2" - 3 shot group which is much better than I had expected at 100 yds. Nice gun to boot.

where can you find the year by serial #
tried Marlins web page no luck

Subtract the first two numbers in the serial no from 100 to get the year of manufacture for 'recent' rifles. This works from around the late 1940s I think. Not sure what they've done since 2000

For instance if the first two #s are 20 it was made in 1980
