Brought home my new Marlin 336 yesterday. Tried it out today. I seem to have a borked front sight. It's hard to see in the picture (sorry about the craptastic quality), but the paint for the front dot only covers about half of the dot. I don't know how I missed that when I was looking at it in the store, or when I inspected it before shooting!

After 15 rounds I've come to the conclusion that I don't have the skill or patience to compensate for this when aiming. Worth returning to the store or should I just replace the front sight with something that glows?

Me: So I have this Marlin with paint missing on the front sight and I'm wondering if I should return it or find a TruGlo or Williams or...
Hunting store owner: Paint the f***er.
Me: With what?
Hunting store owner: Paint.
Me: Well dang...now I feel retarded...

Long story short, I painted it.

Flip it around. There is a round notch in one of the grooves.

The front site insert slides around freely on my 1894c. I will be ordering a Skinner sight for the rear with a matching Marbles front sight.

WTF does "borked" mean?

What is "borked"?

"Borked" is a combination of "broken" and "wrecked". I'm a computer tech (read: nerd) as well as a CGN, and sometimes my English, Gun-eze and Nerd-eze get mixed up. My apologies for the confusion.

To those of you who suggested paint or nail polish, I truly do feel as silly and/or stupid as I'm sure you think I am.
