I found this rifle at the Calgary gun show Saturday. I wasn't aware they made the 336 in this calibre-I thought it was just the 1894-anyhow, after he dropped the price by $100 I bought it. Can anyone tell me more about them and what would be a good choice for ammunition?

It's definitely a 336. I've shot my brother's 1894 in the same calibre and was quite impressed with it. I'll post a pic tomorrow. It has no cross-bolt safety and just a straight grip.

my 44 mag marlin loves 240 gr hp loaded to rifle data, dropped 2 deer in where they stood. lung shot is the best with little meat spoiled.

The 336 was only made for a couple years in the 60's in 44 magnum. Supposidly had feeding problems (long action - short case) and the reason they reintroduced the 1894 after having dropped it for decades. But just like the microgroove barrels (which it should have) the flaws got blown out of proportion. Most guys I've talked to that own one say they work fine.
Wouldn't mind coming across one myself. :D

I didn't search high and low for ammunition but I did buy some 180gr Remington (just because it was cheapest). Hope to have a range report after the weekend!!:D
