What would you guys recommend as a good aftermarket set of sights for a Marlin 336 Lever action.
I have heard the Williams peeps are decent, but would like to get thoughts (or photos) of what others are using.

I would like to replace both the front and rear together.

Thanks.

I have seen a few hunters mounting target peep sights on the rear. I have used factory sights on mine without any problems at normal 100 to 150 yard hunting ranges.

None. Keep the factory sights and practice with them. The aftermarket sights all suffer from the same defect, there is no way to adjust them quickly. They are only really good for close range. With the factory buckhorn rear on my old .30-30, I can shoot deer from 25-150 yards, and have the option of clicking up the elevator and hitting raccoons at 250+ yards. Practice with them sights, and you'll be amazed at how small a target you can hit with them! I do switch the bead front to a blade, though. I have also installed a tang sight on one of my rifles, and use that on really long shots.

I highly recommend an aperature (peep) sight. You can't go wrong with the Williams Fool Proof, but Lyman also makes a model that fits the same holes in the rifle.
When a person gets experience with peep sights he/she never wants to go back to open, iron sights. The peep is more accurate and faster to get on with, as the eye looks through the hole, but doesn't see it! I like a blade front sight, sighted to hit right on the top of the blade.
For hunting you unscrew the insert from the aperature and leave it out. Throw the rifle to your shoulder, the eye looks through the hole, automatically, and just sees the front sight. put the top of the blade on what you want to hit, and let fly. Both eys should be left open. Thus, on long, deliberate shots where elevation is required, you cover the target with the blade, but having both eyes open, the target is easily seen, "right through" the front sight.
Eagleye, on these threads, and myself, are two people who have each done a fair bit of competetive shooting with 30-30, model 94s, with aperature sights, where shooting was to 300 yards. Each of us have a fair number of trophies won at these events.
Here is a Williams FP on a Marlin 44 mag. The disc is removed, for a wide open view.

I'd recomend 'Skinner sights" for sure, I have them on two of my levers, (45colt, 45/70 Marlins,). They give great accuracy, are easy to adjust, (if you wish), durable and they look good. You you can get them in blue, brass or now stainless. I went brass on my blued guns, looks sharp I think.

They come with a standard .096 aperture that screws out so you can use the sight more like a 'ghost ring'. Tim will also make custom apertures down to .040 for fine target shooting. Myself, I've shot a 1 1/8 groups (45/70) out to 150 yards with the standard .096 aperture.

Tim ships to Canada prompley and has great customer service, can't beat the price for the quality product that your getting.

Check them out.
