Marlin 336 owners please help!

Hey, CGNers,

Can anyone please advise if the lever on a Marlin 336 should have a bit of play when in the opened position? I've only had the rifle a few months and haven't shot it that much and I don't recall this much jiggle in the lever before... before I lent it to a friend, that is. It's possible it was like this before and I never noticed, but it's also possible my friend did not treat the rifle well.

If 336 owners could please do me a favour and open the lever and move it around and see how much it moves, if at all.

Yes the lever on my 336 is loose/sloppy in the open position.
It has always been this way. No worries as long as the hinge screw
at the top of the lever is snug.
 
I own a Marlin 30AS which is the no frills version of the 336, and as mentioned above, a bit of slop. Wait til you get about 500 rounds through it, and the trigger improves too.
 
Yes, there is some side to side jiggle. The screw is tightened fully. There is a bit of give front and back.. like a bit of wiggle before the lever actually engages the bolt if you get what I mean. I figured this was normal but ya, it does jiggle a bit side to side...
 
Normal, both side to side and front to back.
It's a sloppy rifle made in a kids shop class.
It's just what it is.
I've gone through so many parts I've lost track. Then again I beat the living piss out of it.

The ejector spring will most likely shear at around 6200 rounds. Waiting for a new one as we speak. Still waiting on 12 barrel band screws and a barrel band which have been on back order for 3 months now :(

It does not take well to extreme heat cycles, we'll just put it that way.

Not the firearm you would want for the end of the world unless you had a bag full of spares to go with it.
But in fairness it's not the rifles fault as it wasn't designed for rapid fire of 6000+ rounds a year.

I still enjoy it though.:D It's a love hate relationship.;)

You must do one pile of shooting. Most Marlin owners are your typical once a year deer hunters and wouldn't fire 600 rounds in a lifetime. Consequently the Marlin is pretty reliable for them. " Beat the piss out of it " is a fair assessment.
