I have a 1950's circa 336. The top of the receive is NOT tapped, but there are a few small holes on the side. Are these intended for scope/peep mounting and/or rail mounting? Does anyone know where I can find a weaver style base that I can mount on this?

that one's not mine, sadly, just a pic of one like mine I found on teh Interweb.

Mine's not quite as nice, but I do plan on re finishing it eventually

i beleive those three holes are for a peep sight dont quote me but thats what they look like as for a scope i doubt you'l find a mount to fit those exact 2 holes but again dont quote me lol

well, I have no intention of mounting a scope, but I did just buy a weaver-mount peep sight...

No matter, if it doesn't fit, Williams makes a peep sight that mounts to the holes (I think, more research is called for). I can use the weaver peep on my NEF.

Prosper,

I just got the williams set for my marlin, what you need is the FP 94/36 peep. it mounts on the two holes where those two small screws are. I am very happy with the peep, you also have to change the front bead.

Williams Aperature Sight

Get an old Lyman aperture sight for your rifle, much higher quality than williams

A Williams Fool-Proof is an excellent sight for a hunting rifle. A Lyman 48 may be preferred on the range, but for general use I like the neat, smooth Williams better.
