Have any of you had problems finding replacement stocks for a pistol grip 336 30-30, made in early '70s (sn starts with 71)? I bought a used one a while back that had a Ramline synthetic stock set on it and when the stock is installed, the metal sits proud (higher than the plastic) in the pistol grip area. I thought that this was a problem with the Ramline stock until I picked up a used wood set here on the EE and its the same size as the Ramline, therefore too small for my rifle. Is something wierd with my rifle or are there actually different sizes of 336 pistol grip frames/receivers?

Are you sure your rifle is from the early 1970's? At one time their serial numbers were a "countdown to 2000"; I had a 1978 (S/N begins with 22) and a 1977 (S/N began with 23)
If your rifle has the crossbolt safety it's after 1982, I believe.

I suggest you contact "smoji" here on the board. If he does not know the answer to your question, he can probably fix you up with a stock that fits..........
