Hi

Ive noticed two styles of 336.
One has two barrel bands and full length magazine
The other has a "half" barrel band and shorter magazine

Is the barrel band the only difference due to the shorter magazine?
Any difference in average accuracy?

Thank you

Less ammo, less weight out front, dove tail hanger for the mag tube, and some of the sporting versions with the shorter mag tubes have longer barrels.

Any accuracy differences is likely just due to some guns shooting better then others more then the harmonic effect on the barrel due to the different systems though I suppose the dovetail hanger and shorter tube has a few less variables and is likely a tighter system then the dual barrel bands.

And then you have us “end cap” fan boys who are not super keen on barrel bands….

Maybe it’s just me who is not a gunsmith and just bought one of those Wheeler 80 (?) piece screw driver sets, but I really am fond of the forestock “end cap” approach as seen on the Marlin AS (?) or my .45-70 1895 GSBL / Guide Guns. I am enjoying working on / dealing with that dovetail hanger with 2 screws.

Mind you the balance of my (sold a couple of years back) 336W and my 336Y were excellent.

Accuracy wise, I’ve been surprised by all my versions of Marlins. They were darn accurate, and I’m coming from the PR disciplines. All my of 336 rifles shot surprisingly well, and my 3 x 1895 rigs did too. I guess I’ve been super lucky. :)

See what works for you and your game/passion/fondle factor/addiction to the Marlin rigs….

Peace Be The Journey!

Cheers, Barney

Depending on how far you go back, most 336 were marked as 336 RC or 336 SC.
Regular carbine = full length mag tube. The standard model.
Sporting carbine = half length mag tube. The premium model.

The forestocks come in 'fat' and 'slim' configuration as well, depending on the year of manufacture. Do they not?

Yes the forends do vary. Not the best pictures but here is a couple examples. Both rifles are 336RC's one is a 1955 35Rem, the other one is an (Aug)1960-61, 32Spl.

I ran into a slight hiccup installing a Skinner peep sight. The holes in the receiver didnt line up with the two holes in the sight base.
I found a drawing online that showed the hole spacing at 3.25". The sight base was 3.25" but the holes in the receiver were slightly farther apart.
The holes in my receiver look factory....has anyone else run into this?
Thank you
