Marlin 336 XLR

Well, after a lot of searching high and low, I finally found a Marlin 336 XLR. Being that it is likely one of the last Marlins produced in New Haven, I'm assuming that it will be manufactured well.
I have heard recently that there were a few bugs in the 2009 and newer Marlins. What is a guy to look out for on these rifles in terms of a "lemon"?
Also, would anyone know if it is possible to obtain a large loop that is found on the 45/70 XLR? I know that Marlin is going thru a major restructuring phase right now, but any information would be appreciated. Thanks.:cheers:
 
The only problem that I'm aware of occured with a friend who brought me his new .444 Marlin for scope installation. The front edge of the elevator would catch on the leading edge of the bore thus not allowing good bullet alignment into the bore. Since it was a new gun, I recommended that he return it rather than mess with it. The rifle was promptly exchanged for a brand new one.

As far as the large loop goes, you can get a Wild West Guns lever from Brownells. If shipping is an issue, contact Western Gun Parts in Edmonton.

Also for the big loop, chances are slim to none that you might get one from Marlin. I bought a 444XLR in Aug. and posted on the Marlin owners fourm for a stainless big loop for it. I ended up getting it from a Marlin worker in the repair shop before they shut it down. Right now there is guy in the Marlin owners fourm who is making custom big loops. Best bet is to join and talk to him.
Neather Brownells or Wild West gun parts will ship the loops to Canada, already tried. Brownell doesn't stock SS Loops. Western Gun parts never returned my emails or phone calls about the loop

Also the stainless big loop is for the 1895SBL, there is no such gun as the 45/70XLR.:)
 
Well as far as the big loop is concerned, a good millwright with machining capability might make you a real shiny one....for a nominal fee :)
