OK, I have brand new 336BL and the loading port is stiff as a rusty gate. It loads fine, jusr requires a lot of "push" to get the rounds in the mag.

Will it loosen up over time, or is there something I can do to break it in?

Never had a lever action before so the only thing that comes to mind is to load snap caps all night while watching tv.

When loading a lever, do not completely insert each round, leave the end of the round protruding out of the port and push it in with the next round until full or you have the amount you want in the rifle. Much easier than trying to force the loading gate open each time. When loaded, the round backs up a little past the opening of the loading gate.

agreed.

My 336 was my grandfathers, before it was my dads and is now mine. The loading gate can be stiff. Some days its worse then others. Have no idea why. But if I leave the previously loaded shell sticking out just a bit makes its really easy.

Have fun. :)

On some new Marlins the lifter may not go all the way down causing the gate to touch the lifter, I assume this straightens itself out over time. I've seen it on several new Marlins(Rem.)
