Pretty basic question with an obvious answer I think...
The lever screw was slightly loose when I checked.
Should I hand tighten it or add a bit of blue locktite?
Poor picture but marlin owners will recognize it.

Thanks for the input :)

Hand tighten. I would not Loctite it, since you need to take it out to disassemble your Marlin to properly clean it.

While blue Loctite is not like the Red variety, it may still cause marring of the screwdriver slot when you try to take it out.

"guns crews" and "Loctite" of any color should not be part of the same sentence at any time.

Not sure why you say that but I'm certainly open to hearing why you have that opinion.

I use a little blue loctite on my Marlin lever screw otherwise it keeps backing out. With the loctite it is still easy to remove the screw (which I have done many times) without maring the head using proper hollow ground screwdrivers. In the past I have made more of a mess of screw heads trying to over-tighten by hand otherwise. This way, I can tighten a reasonable amount without over-doing it. I've also used blue loctite on the front sight screw on my wifes Mark III when she put a new FO sight on it because it wasn't staying in place. Loctite is good stuff when used in moderation and in appropriate places IMO.

Good luck with whatever approach you take.

The only screws that I ever put Loctite [blue only] on are scope base screws.
Since a loose scope mount can easily ruin a hunt, the last thing I want is to have one of those backing out on the trail.

However, no other gun screws should have Loctite applied to them if it is at all avoidable, IMHO.

The point regarding using properly ground screwdrivers is well taken....very important to avoid damaging slots.

Regards, Dave.

To the OP, if you have not already, make sure you thoroughly clean the screw and threads it goes into. There should be no oil or grease. This may help your screw stay in place without using Loctite.
