Marlin 336C or XS7S

The wife has found a couple guns she likes, but we don't know which one would be the best. She has been shooting a 30/30 a bit and likes it, and likes the looks of the Marlin 336C (in 30/30). The 30/30 would probably do everything she will ever want to do, which is hunt deer and bear. However, she's interested in the Marlin XS7S bolt action (in 7mm-08). Which one would you go with ?
 
Two entirely different rifles.

The Marlin 336 30.30 is more fun. (I have one.)

The Marlin bolt 7mm-08 is more versatile, probably more accurate, and capable at range.

Get her both!

As already stated, everybody needs a 30-30, so start there. Later as shooting improves and the need for smaller groups grows, go with the bolt. Just my opinion and worth what you paid for it.

LOL All are good opinions...all of them are welcome.
As far as her shooting goes, I have to give her credit. Her first time shooting a friend's old 30/30 was pretty darn good...first time shooting a rifle, open sights, and was keeping all her shots in a 3 inch group at 50 yards. I gave it a try, and I'll tell ya, I wasn't too much better with the ol' open sights.
Her first 3 shots at 50 yards...about 3.5 inches between the two outside shots... not bad for her first time.

I agree that by shooting better groups she will gain more confidence, which in turn will make her enjoy shooting even more. Those Marlin bolts are great shooters, and have a great recoil pad if she is recoil sensitive. I have an XL7 myself, and its a very accurate firearm.

Once she starts shooting well with the bolt action, then buy the lever. Of course, once you buy her those two rifles, its almost a sure thing she will let you buy yourself a new one since she got two.:D
 
The bolt all the way. A scope & an accurate rifle will make her a better shot, therefore helping with clean kills. A poor placed shot oftens turns many people off hunting. JMHO. Good luck, AJ.
