Marlin 336w 30-30 win to big for coyote? Ideas please!

Any of the fast .22's are a good choice. Even better are the really fast sub calibers. .204 ruger or .17 rem. leave no exits with frangible bullets and are super quick making running shot on dogs much easier. 42 this fall already have went nighty night with a 26 grain varmint grenade at around 4100 fps and none have complained.

In my limited experience shooting coyotes with deer rifles I would be surprised if a 6.5x55 with a 140gr bullet made a big mess.
My uncle has shot a lot of coyotes over the years and prefers 50gr bullets in his 222 or 223.

In N.S. we used to have a rule that you could use a centerfire rifle but bullets no heavier than 100 grains. I picked up some Remington accelerators (saboted smaller bullet) but never had a chance to put them to the task.

I then loaded up some rounds with a 100 gr soft point .30 cal bullet. I forget what accuracy was like with them.

There are ways of getting the 30-30 to do what you want but with so many good guns available now for little money I tend to have 1 or more for each purpose. Kinda like it as each season arrives I carry a different gun.

I'm using a Savage 10 xp in .223 now.

I think if trade ex can give me a decent offer on a the swede ima go with that, the only other that sounds good would be a remmington VTR in .223, or is the remmington not worth the dollar?
