I just acquired a new to me 1955 Marlin 39A straight stock with a factory barrel mounted 3/4 scope, and am looking to get propped filler screws and and put a rear sight on it. Hoping one of you knowledgeable gents can point me in the right direction as to where to source the proper filler screws, and which sight or sights would be correct for this old girl.

The local shops I have visited within 120km have not been able to provide product nor answers so I am out prowling CGN with high hopes ;)

Rounded lever, she's tucked in snug as a bug at the back of the safe...
will throw a pic up when there's some sunshine outside to get a decent one

I have never seen a factory barrel mounted scope, are you sure about that?
factory rear sight ( barrel mount) are hard to find, thou lots of ordinary sight will go on.
if it is drilled for receiver sight, that would be the way to go , a tang sight is always nice if you have lots of cash.

Here's some shots of the rear sight from my 1959 39A Mountie:

And just to compare with my 1981 39M:

I would go with Skinner peep sights if you do anything aftermarket.

Thanks for that! I like the idea of peep sight although never used one... Would it be more for precision target shooting ?

Okay snapped a couple quick pics as daylight allowed

After removing the weaver 3/4" scope and mount
4 precision drilled and tapped holes are revealed...what I found odd is that there was no filler block in the rear dovetail?

Yes it did come with a factory mounted scope...mine is a 1954 version.
The scope mount holes can be filled with 10/32 size plugs/set screws.
Bernie

PS. Mine has the rear site attached but was reversed to accommodate the scope. Left it that way better to get sight picture with my old eyes.

Not necessarily, but some find they can shoot more accurately with them. It's just another option from hard to find factory parts. I have Skinner Black Gold sights on my 24" 39A and I like it better than Marlin's factory sights on that rifle. In saying that both my Mountie's are more accurate than I am with factory sights, so it all comes down to personal preference!

For collector purposes, original factory parts are obviously more desirable.

Thanks for that Bernie! My local shop just said "dunno what size those are but we don't have 'em"

Does your rear sight have any notable markings? IE mfg etc..

There are no notable marking of any kind on the rear sight.

If you are anywhere near a Cabelas they have Pachmayr Master Gunsmith Screw Kit containing 277 various screws for guns that contain the 10/32 plug screws and a whole lot more. I also replaced the steel forehand screws of the 39 from the kit.
