Marlin 39a cleaned up

This Marlin 39a from 1979 had a few marks on the wood and needed cleaning.

Took it apart, and redid the wood. Some sanding, SuperFine steel wool, and two coats of TruOil.
It is about as close as possible to the original wood finish which was some "secret Marlin formula".

All back together and ready for the range test.

It was freezing. The scope is a 3.5 - 10 x 40 Leupold that is about 25 years old.
At 25 m., it was low, and I ran it up one revolution.
It was still low, and another revolution ran out of adjustment proved to be still low.
At 50 m., I tested CCI MiniMags, both solid and HP.
The solids were 3 low and except for the first shot being called a flyer, the 9 shot group measured 1.5" c-c.
The HP's were 2.5" low and measured 1.2 for 9, and 0.75 for 8.
I could use some trigger work but since it is not my rifle (yet) to bugger with that will have to wait.
When I say yet, it would have to come by way of a trade and the owner may not be interested in what I have to trade. Maybe my CZ 452V . . .
With the scope off, I sighted in the open sights. I got the elevation but did not want to make any front sight adjustment.
I was quite happy with this project. If any one wishes to float an offer, I am sure the owner would be prepared to listen.
