marlin 39a misfires..

Strip the bolt out of it and take a good look at the firing pin and it's slot that it rides in.
Push it fully forward, it should protrude about to the point that it is nearly flush with the front of the bolt face, but not beyond (or it would damage the chamber).
Bits of unburnt powder residue can buildup and be packed hard in spots that can stop the pin from traveling freely and fully forward when fired. Check for any binding.
It may be as simple as properly stoning off a burr or straightening out a stamped part to not bind.
Sometimes, some guns just plain don't seem to work with some ammo, too. If possible, try some different ammo. But it shouldn't. But it does, sometimes.
Given the tight supply of ammo these days, that may not be a great option, but this too, will pass.

I've 3 older .22's that are very finicky about their diet.
2 Mossberg WW2 trainers and a 1914 Savage pump. Older guns will not digest all like a 10-22.
Worth the hassle but some headscatching req'd for older stuff sometimes.

If the firing pin is perfectly straight, it should fall out of the groove on its own. This is the way it should be.
If not, one tap at a time on a flat surface with a hammer until it does not rock.
Clean the groove and lightly oil then wipe it dry.
There may be a build up of lacquer on the firing pin from repeated contacts with the rim.
I checked the Rimfire Central site for serial numbers. Is the MR the new Marlin/Remington designation?
Is it so new as to have the cross bolt safety?

MR definitely means Remington made, but Remington did ship barrels with the North Haven roll mark to the Remington factory in Ilion when they closed down the North Haven plant in 2010. Likely that gun got one of these barrels. The gun should also have an REP proof mark on the right side of the barrel, just forward of the receiver, another sure sign of a Remington made gun. CCI Mini Mags are generally the best; Remington the most questionable.
