Marlin 39a questions

Good evening, I'm looking at a marlin 39a and was wondering a few things about it. The serial number is a G with a 4 digit number behind it, does that mean 1950? Second, the stock is horrendous, is there any place to find a replacement? It shoots very nice just it's really ugly. Thank you for your time. Aaron

boyds makes stocks that can do it,
there is a thread here where someone went laminated stock, looked good, modern but good.

Is the stock itself in bad shape, or just poorly finished? send it to me...I could attempt a re-finish, we'll see if it turns-out..?

Many guns shops have stock duplicaters so if you find a nice chunk of wood they can match the stock.
Alternatively, I took a beat up stock to a furniture repair guy and he filled/steamed the dings and refinished better than new.
