Marlin 39a rear swivel??

Hi

I’ve got a ‘77 Marlin 39a missing the rear swivel. Hoping someone is familiar with the piece.

The hole in my stock looks to be original, but can’t be certain. Any images i see on vendors sites don’t seem to match what I have.

Would anyone have a loose original swivel to post a pic of? Or verify if my crude sketch looks original to the rifle?

The front sling loop is part of the metal cap of course.

Perhaps no help but:
My parts book shows a "bullseye"....little metal piece that goes into the larger part of the hole, then the rear swivel screw-part goes through it into the stock. I would say it matches your illustration.
Part numbers are 320101 and 320811.
 
I don't think they came with slingstuds.
If they did there would not be so many Marlin "Bullseyes" that got drilled out by people that thought the bullseye was where the sling stud was supposed to go.

It's possible some came with sling studs and bullseyes later on

Does yours still have the bullseye and the hole your describing?

There was a thread a few months back where someone had a suggestion for a good replacement of the stud and loop combo unit that your looking for, It was maybe a Ruger .44 Carbine that the guy was looking for or that was the solution?

You should be able to find a Rear Threaded Sling Swivel of some sort that you could make work, or you could just get a typical sling threaded sling stud. Fill the existing hole with wood and glue and then drill what ever you need for the new setup.

Dmay- you may be on it. I’ll try looking up those #s. That seems to make sense.

Can-down - you could be right too, im not sure. I do have the bullseye intact. Its a bit in front of the swivel hole. And mine has a front swivel/ sling loop as an integral part of the metal foreend cap. Looks original factory if i had to guess. Although, it was almost 50 years ago it left the factory…

Yes, i could always put a new sling stud in by filling the hole up. But if there’s a factory part i’ll try that route first.

The fact yours came with the sling stud on the forend cap sort of suggests it was a factory setup, likely similar to this one,

Your best bet might be ebay searching for vintage Rear Sling Swivels, A wanted to buy might turn one up on the EE as there are no doubt a few out there somewhere collecting dust.... or rust!

I got my Marlin 39 2 years ago. It is 1975 dated and was unfired when I got it from a collector who was downsizing.

I removed the sling swivel and put it in a bag with the front sight, hood and rear sight parts.

Herer is what it looks like:

Thanks all for the info. My best bet is to get one of those old marlin swivels. Thats what I’ll do.

I was hoping the strange hole was for some strange profile swivel that i was not able to find. But it was likely just bubba’s handiwork at some point. I’ll have to fill it and drill again properly for a new swivel when i get my hands on one.
