Marlin 45-70 guide gun

I have no idea why someone would need more than 4 rounds in a Marlin 1895 Guide Gun mag tube and I actually used mine for years as my main defense rifle while working in remote wilderness areas and never needed more that 4 rounds actually never needed more than 2...

Some people find rounds more comforting, and the longer tube will move the balance ahead slightly and some prefer a rifle that balances a little muzzle heavy.

Not at all I load them to 1600fps & 1580fps respectively recoil is actually less than my 405gr 1980fps loads.

I also use Kick-Eez recoil pads that reduce felt recoil better than any other pad on the market...

My powder of choice is H322 actually unless I can't get it I do not use any other powder for my 45-70 loads now.

As mentionned earlier in the thread I was turning my guide gun into a pistol gripped guide gun. Silly me...

So here is my stainless Guide gun with my new to me pistol grip stocks, WWG lever and XS rail. I guess it is very similar to a model Marlin has been selling recently, minus the full length mag tube. I prefer pistol grips to the straight stock and I was fortunate to acquire some walnut ones which I then a traded for laminate with a fellow from Marlinowners dot com.

The WWG lever was also obtained on Marlinowners, as is a factory lever I am keeping to swap whenever I fancy.

The rifle is a great shooter with both open sights and the Leupold 1.5X5X20 in QD rings.

I just found a Marlin Guide gun through a private sale for $950.

Is that a good price for one of these? Been wanting to add one of these to my collection for awhile now.

What is the difference between want and need? Me likey!

I would love to have a SBL for hiking and camping and target shooting, though I am interested to get rails on the side for a light, more for the aspect of having a bear gun capable of sorting out a bear in the middle of the night while in a tent or roof top tent when wheeling than for a hunting specific rifle.

Sidetrack: does anyone make rails to be mounted to the lower barrel for one of these?

Cody.

Hey guys,

Buy them if you can. My gun guy told me last week that Remington bought out Marlin and are moving the factory. There will be very few rifles shipped into Canada. Especially the SBL.

Good luck.

I'm looking at getting this light/laser combo just emailed Brownells this morning they can ship the unit direct if you do not order the lithium batteries and I have a business account there so it will hopefully cost appr $400.00...

Surefire X400 WEAPON LIGHT/LASER

* Powerful Tactical Illumination For Rail-Equipped Handguns

Five-position switch, located behind the laser, offers four modes of operation, including light only, laser only, light and laser together, and two disable positions. Nylok(r) adjustment screws won't back out under recoil, so loss of zero is a thing of the past. Fully sealed to keep dust and moisture out.
