Yes, the stainless / laminate 1895XLR which has a 24" barrel. I have one  -

Thanks for sharing your pics and info - Slamfire & sookie_69. How long ago did Marlin put these out on the market...?

Bought mine about 3 years ago, every one seems to want the guide gun length but I am a big man and wasn't scared 0of the length

I bought mine right before Remington took over. From what I was told it was one of the last available for sale in Canada cause the store that brought it in for me looked for one for 2 weeks. I know that Remington has kept up with the 336xlr from what I've seen but have not seen one in 45/70 since the buy out (2007 I think)

I recall reading a review of one of these rifles years ago in a gun rag (Shooting Times, maybe?) The writer, Wayne Van Zwoll, chose to test the rifle on an antelope hunt. A bit later, I saw one listed for sale on the bulletin board of the gun club to which I belonged. It was listed as perfect condition, low rounds...and mounted with a 4-12x50mm scope! :)

The 1895 XLR look decent enough and maybe they will bring them back into production. It's either wait for new production or look at a cowboy with the 26" tube. I favor the pistol grip style and the possibility of mounting a low power scope. I was recently reading that the classic with the 22" barrel throws the bullets around 100 fps faster then the guide gun with the 18.5" barrel. So the longer barrel has more appeal to me. I'm guessing that a 24" or 26" may offer a bit more velocity.
Has anyone crono-ed a 45-70 with the longer barrel options...?

I don't think the 24" barrel kills game any deader than a shorter barrel. I just got a thing for stainless/laminate rifles so I got an XLR. The slight improvement in trajectory with the slightly higher muzzle speeds from a 24" barrel isn't really significant either.

I had originally wanted the sbl but they were sold out (back in the day) so ended up with the xlr. But have since picked one up cause they are so pretty lol. I have changed up some of the scopes recently but here's what I've put up elsewhere.

I am thinking you got way too many Marlins... and am willing to offer assistance with that issue you got. ;)
