I have a newer style marlin 60 with last shot bolt open. I've fired thousands of rounds through it and have never had any problems and religiously clean the action after every couple hundred rounds. Had her out today and found that my bolt isn't staying open after the last shot. Figured she needed a cleaning but that didn't help the problem. Took apart again and even tottaly disassemble the entire action cleaned it all and it's still closing. If you pull the bolt back by hand it does lock but if I pull it all he way back and let it slam the lock doesn't hold. I'm at a loss here and hoping for some advice about this.

Thanks MET. Lots of good info there. Pretty sure it's got to do with my bolt release lever. It was pretty loose so I peened the pin with a punch and it worked good for 6 shots and started acting up again. I also seen because of being loose it has bent a little which caused it to rub. Think I'm going to have to get a new lever. Update. Got her working good now. Took apart again and tweaked the lever just a little bit, polished the side plate and outside of feed ramp box where the lever was rubbing and gave a spray with some graphite just in case and took it out and fired about 20-25 rds single and it locked open after every shot.

My model 60 has the same issue has since it was new ... I have just lived with it but it does lead to a few dry fires if I'm not counting shots ... Can you pm me with what you did exactly to fix this?
