Marlin 60, is it any good?

I have had numerous 10/22s and I now own a Marlin 60. The marlin is better value if you ask me but that's based on its low sticker price more than performance advantages of one over the other. Of course you have to want a squirrel gun with no modifications in mind other than maybe a different stock. The 10/22 has thousands of aftermarket parts to the point where you can build a 10/22 with no actual Ruger parts in it.

Sticking with the OEM guns... Open up both actions and the Marlins construction actually looks sturdier, though admittedly both have the strength needed for 22LR. I have never had a feeding problem with the OEM Ruger mags (those after market banana clips.are.another story) and I haven't had a problem with the Marlin. Over the course of 100 rounds I'd say the win probably goes to the 10/22 but it's really close. The stock on the 60 does seem a little thin.

In the end, handle both and pick the one that you like most. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

And eventually I did this to it, because the rifle impressed me enough to warrant it.

Get the Marlin.

Where did you buy the stock?

Wow. Talk about revive an old thread! Been shooting .22s for 40 years and have had 6 1022s over the years including 2 heavy barrel ones. None of them were accurate compared to the Marlin model 60 or the 795 or the Papoose for that matter. Scope them and you're off to the races. I now have all 3 and have sold my last 1022 and don't miss it one bit. Even put a Volquartzen hammer and sear, shock buff etc and just couldn't get mine to shoot accurately with a variety of ammo. Recently got the 3 Marlins and am super impressed. Easy to clean and take apart as someone was asking. 45 gophers and counting but its still early. The Marlins are the buy of the century at under $200. except the Papoose at $269. They shoot straight right out of the box. No extras needed.
