Can't make up my mind on a Marlin model 60 or 795. I see they appear to be the same gun, tube feed or mag feed. Anyone have any pro's and con's on both, as I've read the 60's feed great and have also read 795's have problems loading the last 1 or 2 shots. What's the truth on these things? Thanks

No experience with the 795 but I have had a 60 for about 20 years. Loading the tube mag is a little slower but it dosen't get in your back when carrying it on a sling. Absolutely no problems with the 60 feeding ammo. It isn't picky on ammo but when it gets dirty it will fail to eject, close as the bolt makes contact with a fair bit of the top of the reciever and the crud will really slow it down.

That being said, I just picked up my first 10/22 and I have to say the Marlin has hands down the better method of action disassembly. No steel pins to be driven out, just a plastic pin at the rear that can be removed with fingers.

Putting on the flame suit now before the 10/22 posse arrives.:p

I have a 795 and love it. As I understand it (from those who know more than me) the guts of these rifles are identical.
The choice comes down to your preference. I like the 10 shot mag, because I don't hunt and only shoot paper which makes target shooting convenient. The tube holds 17? long rifle rounds.
You won't go wrong with either choice.

Marlin 60 all the way. Contrary to what some people say, it's actually faster to feed the tube mag than a box mag. Just turn the rifle upside down and hold it up at a 45 degree angle and you can drop those 14 rounds down into that mag faster than anyone could load a box magazine. It takes about 5 seconds to load 14 rounds if you've got a handful of .22lr.

It's a far more accurate gun than the 10/22, has a more reliable action in my experience, and is also much easier to brake down for cleaning. The only advantage the 10/22 has is that it's easier to customize it like Barbie.

There's something in the design of the Marlin which makes it nearly impossible to foul the barrel. The manual actually states the action should be cleaned every 250 rounds or so if you're using dirty ammo and the barrel does not ever need to cleaned for the lifetime of the firearm. This sounds ridiculous but I've put 400+ rounds through it at a sitting and a clean oiled patch goes through the barrel and comes out white. There's something in the design which simply keeps the barrel clean.

I wouldn't want to race filling a mag vs. someone filling a tube...even If I have a 7 shot mag and, the tube holds 14! Tubes cannot be lost and, have a nice profile. Mags can be kept loaded in a pocket and, quickly slapped in... Otherwise, very similar rifles. I don't know if the new 60's "hold open" but the 7000's and, 795's do.

Did you ever have to finally decide?

Great rifles regardless!

I have shot my friend's 60SS a number of times, and really like it. My own .22 is a Rem 597, and it felt a little odd with the tube mag at first, but it is a sweet shooter, and a beautiful looking rifle to boot. Were I to get another, I would definitely go with a 60SS!!

I have a 795 and really enjoy having the mag capabilities. I find it safer for new shooters because I don't have to worry about having a loaded round in the chamber when they are done shooting. It's quick and easy to pop the mag out.

All depends on what you're going to use it for-if its going to be a truck gun then you want the 795-see a grouse on the FS road, pop the mag in and you're plucking.I put a Boyds thumbhole laminate[$69] on mine and its beautiful. The ONLY thing I don't like is the stiff trigger...

Never shot a 60, but own a tube-fed 22 (Nylon 66). I own a 795 and like it a great deal. I don't think you can go wrong with either likely. Depends on whether you have a need for fast reloads.

Another vote for the 795, love mine, its deadly accurate and idiot proof. Buy a spare mag or two, fill em up ahead of time and when needed just slide one in and you're good to go.
