Hi, today, i've finaly shoot it with an old Bushnell Sportsview 3-9 38mm that i've removed from my Savage mod 99 and I'm a bit disapointed:( I've recieved it last friday and give a good clean to the barrel before shooting it (to be sure that it has no factory residue in it) I had only try 3 ammo; CCI mini mag, Win Target(std. vel.) and Federal ''Bulk Pack''(only 10 round) I also try 2 Rem yellow jacket(not more cause i'm not comfortable using hyper vel. in it!?!??) Should I be disapointed with only 3 kind of ammo tried??? I have to say that i'm only worried about poor accuracy( 1.5 to 2 inchs @ 50....benched) and as for the reliability, no malfunction in 100 round!!.....this afternoon i'll buy a bunch of different ammo. I also have to say that it's an old bunch of ammo that i had since maybe 10 years and those was stored in the basement of my house(it's a litle bit more humid than normal), so.........??? ......and all that with no wind and 32°F.
I'll give you some news after another shooting session!

I've just shoot with 3 other kind of ammo; Win. High Vel., Fed. American Eagle and Win. Wildcat and it's worse... .the scope is good( i do moa with it on my Savage 99) and he's not moving. All that was made after a total strip down of the rifle to clean it and to see if something's wrong in it.....and everything seem to be ok so ??? Next thing I'll do tomorow is to put my Bushnell Elite 3200 7-21 40mm AO (that I have on my Sav. 12 fvss) on it and see....I also have to say that it's not caused by my poor shooting ability...I'm able to do 1/2 and 1/4 MOA with my Savage in 223. All are 5 shots groups.
The barrel dont have any rough things in it and look good.

Last time I had mine out I was shooting 1 hole at 50yds benched with dynapoints and a simmons 3x-9x so I would definately be disappointed with those groups.
Hopefully the scope is the culprit!

Try many different types of ammo.
I was shooting a new to me Remington 550 yesterday with a few kinds of ammo. With open sights at 50 yards, cold and windy, I was getting 6 inch groups. Tried Federal, T22, Dynapoints, Remington.
Then tried PMC Scoremaster and got 2 inch groups. Not so bad for iron sights since I was shooting to check function, not for groups.
I want to try Eley and Lapua as well.

Big difference between makes of ammo in individual guns.

Sounds like a bad scope for sure, I had an (expensive) Simmons scope break down inside- it would change point of impact every other shot, almost made me give up on a rifle! I fitted a different scope and problem solved.
Let us know what happens..

As someone who has recently purchased a 7000 but not put many shells through it I find your problem to be quite disconcerting. I hope the ammo or scope change clears things up for you.

Assumeing that the scope is good and the bases tight, I'd keep shooting different brands of ammo. Sounds like you've got less than 500 rds through it. My 1022 didn't settle down until after the second brick.

Just out of curiosity, the muzzel crown is in good shape, right?

Seem to be ok but, stupid question: what should it look like? i never realy saw what a bad muzzle crown look's like....i'm pretty new in ''precision shooting''...BTW, I've just spend 46$ in ammo: CCI Green Tag (100), Federal Game Shock...not the hollow point (2 box of 100), Rem Thunderbolt (50), Rem. ''Game Loads'' (40), CCI Stingers (50) and CCI Velocitor (50). Tomorrow, I'll give a call to a ''shooting buddy'' and we'll go to the range to see if it's better.....I hope so!!
Thanks a lot guys!!;) :D

Make sure you check oyur mounts and they don't move. Do not use the ones that came with the gun if you have something better at home.

Squill now that these guys mention it I do remember having a problem with my rings comming loose and I had to use some lock tite.Solved the problm for me.Old age = bad memory.

Hmmmm.

4:00pm 7000 won't shoot with old ammo.

4:02pm went to the store, bought and tested 3 more types of ammo after stripping and cleaning the gun.

4:03 mounted new scope to try on gun for the next day.

Slow down! You might hit something!;)

:D :D :D ...i did a copy from an other forum to avoid rewriting all....as you can see on my Avatar, I'm a ''frog'':D :D ... and since my english speaking's not very good, I saved some work!!

Fair enough!:)

My only experience with a 7000 was with a neighbor of mine. He had one and boy that thing would shoot! I would put a few more rounds through yours before I would worry too much. Waiting to hear if the other scope made any difference.

I'm very encouraged from the results I had this afternoon with CCI Green Tag and Federal Game shock......except couple of weird things I've noticed in my grouping as you'll see.....one of these is on the second target after shooting Federal's (target number 5), I remember seeing the far left shot entered the target as the cross still ''unmoved'' on the target....and same thing for the two others   ...maybe the Green tag's dont like to pass through other kind of ammo dirt!!!?? and after, it start shooting better. :)
Any idea on those flyers??...I also noticed that the recoil spring, when removed, is not very straight....a little wave in it?? It is normal?
NB.: All was 5 shot groups.

Not a stupid question! Its unlikely that a new out of the box rifle would have a bad crown, but it can happen.

The crown should be smooth, round and symetric. There should be no nicks, cuts, gouges in the metal where the bore rifeling meets the face of the muzzel. Leftover metal burrs and machining/tool marks might also cause issues. Lastly, you want to make sure that the centre of the bore is also the centre of the barrel. Its sort of hard to explain, sorry I don't have any pics.

If by "eye-balling" it looks ok, than it probably is. I'd keep shooting it with different ammo, until it settles down and finds something it likes.

Run a Q-tip around the face/rifling junction. Any tiny burrs will pull strands off the Q-tip.

Take her out to the range and burn through a brick of ammo. Practice your off-hand shooting. Rapid-fire a couple cans to shreds. Break the gun in a bit more.:)

Then, do your group tests again.
