Ive been calling every gun shop in Canada looking for a marlin Papoose. Does anyone know were they have all gone? Did they stop making them?

Any suggestions where one might find one?

Thanks,

-R

They usually pop up used here on the Equipment Exchange every few months or so....I'd try a wanted to buy post in the EE.

Welcome to CGN!

All new marlin mags are interchangeable between all like caliber guns. The papoose will be back, I heard Remington is going to be doing a production run of them in the late spring, should be available up here by summertime. All the old factory ones have been sold off I think... Remington has yet to make them. But I for one hold my breath on the quality of these new models for this particular gun. The reason they cost so much more than the 795 is because the threaded sleeve and barrel shank have to be constructed just right, with a substantial ammount of hand finishing to work properly. NOT remingtons strong point. We shall see.

I almost sold mine recently... Thank god I snapped out of it. I traded off my 60 instead. My papoose is easily the most accurate .22lr semi auto I have ever shot.

They are like gold lately i did exchange one of my 2 Papoose for a brand new Rossi 44 mag and 300 rounds of Fiocchi 240 gr, if i had asked for an extra 50.00 the gentleman would have give it to me, peoples want them real bad... JP.

When Remington purchased Marlin they moved all the old Marlin tooling equipment to the Remington factory. Unfortunately Remington could not make them work in the same manner as the old Marlin boys could. The 70PSS was a major casualty and has been essentially out of production for the past year. At 2012 Shot Show Remington advised that the Papoose would be coming back on line with all the kinks worked out but they gave no definite date for this expected resuscitation. I've been waiting and holding my breath since February 2011 -- turning a bit blue. HELLO MARLIN...REMINGTON....HELLO....let's get it going down there.

Based on the butcher job that Remington did to the marlin 1895 SBL 45/70, I would be weary of buying any Marlin from them. I,m lucky, I have a Papoose from way before Remington took them over, but I REALLY wanted an 1895 SBL...so I'm pretty pissed off about that.

What's going on here? Are guys saying Remington bought out Marlin?
I bought 2 Marlin Popoose back in 2009. I just checked my receipts and I paid $730 for the pair. I also bought two extra 7 round and two 10 round mags on top. Le Baron now have them in their 2012 catalog for $273 a piece. Is Le Baron selling cheaper Remington Popoose or did I get hosed three years ago?

Yes, Remington took over Marlin and there has been some issues with quality control. I don't know how many models are(were) affected, but the 1895 SBL 45/70 Lever was definitely fu*ked up. You should be able to tell if you have a true Marlin by a proof mark on the barrel...I think it's a JM or M stamp for Marlin.

Hey Rackman
Thanks for the info. Yes mine are definity Marlin. I called Le Baron yesterday and they won't confirm the Remington new ownership of Marlin, however they said that they have been waiting for a long time to receive a new shipment of the Popoose. They even have a waiting list. I bought mine for my kids. They love them. Nice size for youth shooters, and super all around firearm. My Dad bought the Marlin 38/357 about five years ago and it's a great shooter as well. I was thinking of getting one too, but now I guess I'll just borrow his whenever I want to shoot it.
I owned a couple of Henry levers a while back. I never really like them. I switched to Browning and am very happy with the ones I own now.
Anyways, sad to hear Marlin shut down. I hope I never have a problem with two I have now, cause I'm sure it would be a real pain in the arse dealing with Remington.
