Marlin 717 17Mach2 ???????????

Don't know to much about the marlin version, but have seen the hm2 in action. Although better in 50+yds then the 22lr; it doesn't equal the hmr:) . The groups are around 2-3 in:( at the 100yd mark. So for the same price I would look at the 22wmr or 17hmr. why not???????????????????

Actually I used to have a marlin 22 that was almost identical to this gun and loved it for carrying. I want a repeater and so far this is the only 17 semi for under 250$

How much is 17M2 ammo in Canada? Where can you get it? I looked into getting one a year ago but I couldn't find anyone who carried ammo?

This is what I remember when I looked into it:

Pro's
-More accurate then 22LR up to 100m
-Way less loud then HMR

Con's
-Good to a 100m and then it goes down hill (literally) real fast!
-Ammo cost and availability???

- Also from my research bullets breaking apart in the barrel looked to be early batches and is no longer a problem.

So again how much is ammo and where?;)

Fair enough, but the likelyhood of opportunity for headshots on grouse at that distance are not neccessarily an everyday occurance, and if you opppps the shot, the breast will be un-edible. Now you are talking hunter ethics...I'm not big on wasting meat, and if I goof with a .22LR solid, I can still eat up to the hole with the .22LR, but wouldn't likley be looking for grouse or r5abbit at 100M with my .22 though. Guess that's the pro's and con's of it...

Sorry, didn't mean to start anything. I wouldn't try a head shot on a grouse at 100 yds either. On a gopher though, I know the body is still intack, so my assumption would be a grouse would be intack as well!

Question is, what is your interpretation of the word intact? Does it mean edible? With the 17HMR, I doubt it....and, you didn't start anything, this is all healthy discussion. It's all good!:)

I have to agree these are definitely not the best meat taking rounds. 22 wmr, and both 17's are explosive at regular small game ranges around 25 yds or less. I want a varmint vaporizer! One thats quiet that is.

they are FINE hunter round providing you rpic your shots. I took many rabbits and grouse with mine. headshots only. they shoot flat and are destructive on impact. an excellent choise for smallgame hunting for the marksman.

works pretty good on muskrats, gophers, and other such varmits :D

If you want REAL quite, I would look at the 22 short. Just a little "pop" and the range is good for grouse and rabbit. The 17m2 would (I think) have about the same effect on the meat.
