Marlin 795 5 round Mags/Where to find spare mags?

I have one of these neat little guns and I am setting it up as a truck gun/hunting rifle.
A 5 round magazine would be nice to have as it does not stick out the bottom of the gun so far.
Is there an aftermarket mag? Marlin does not seem to have a 5 round on their website.

Or do I need to get a ten round mag and cut it down so just stands proud of the stock

I believe Marlin also makes a 7 round mag that fits the 795. It is for the Model 70P (papoose), which is pretty popular in Canada. I realize that isn't 5 rounds, but that is the only other mag I have seen for the 795. The aftermarket mags (in the US) are all higher capacity plastic abortions.

I think the best you'll find is the Marlin 7 round ones, it was the mag that came with my new 917M2. I actually liked the look of them so much that I tried to get more of them~mission impossible it seems. The chrome 10-rounders look a little silly hanging (even lower) out of an all black/wood gun...but I don't see them through the scope. I also think that if you wanted a flush mag...or at least one flush to the mag release, you might have to lose more than 2 rounds from a 7-rounder. Would a 4-round, kinda-flush mag be worth the trouble?

The only exception to this is when the snowshoe hare population hits a peak and then a twenty or twenty five round mag isn't enough.

Lol, well, I think we're cut from the same cloth on a few fronts. I've always gotten a bit of a kick out of the 10/22, high-capacity distraction so many are guilty of on web forums while a simple guy like me plugs away with 100% reliable, affordable, factory 10-rounders. (THROUGH a 795, not a 10/22 ) I kind of liked the look of that 7 rounder I posted a pic. of (and it snags on nothing) but the heart wants what the heart wants. I did remember seeing someone discuss this topic on RFC a while back, dug-up the thread for you; http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=468988&highlight=5+round+mag Someone named JD Powell on there was playing around with modifying factory mags to 3 and 5 rounders, with an eye on manufacturing them in volume. If you're really set on a lower-capacity mag, maybe drop him a line.

Oh...and the 795~the only semi-auto rimfire I own and I love it. Terrific value, super accurate, nice and light.
