hi all, i bought one of these great lil shooters a couple weeks ago, threw on a cheap scope took it to the range to sight it in, no problems, 2nd range trip yesterday & its shooting all over until the scope came off the rail, do i need to replace it with a better rail or just tight the f#*k out of it? lol i've read/heard on here somewhere that scopes can "walk" off the rail on 795's, any input is most appreciated

I drilled and tapped a hole at the rear of the receiver and threaded in a socket head cap screw to act as a stop.
That worked fine for attaching to the dovetail.
When dovetail accessories weren't doing it for me anymore, I bought a suitable 4" long weaver rail and drilled and tapped the receiver for it. The rail required minor filing to fit, but is by far the best option.

I've had 2 795s and neither had this issue. On one, I used standard rings but the area that gripped the dovetail was maybe 3/4" long on each ring. So, lots of "purchase"/grip. On the other, I used some no-name version of this I got off of a Chinese airgun supply place a long time ago. Looks exactly like this; https://www.dlairgun.com/Mounts/Hawke/007_Match_Mounts_HM6146.html So I'd recommend either that, or, good rings as described.

I had the same problem until I installed a a very similar one-piece rings and base as .22LGUY linked above. Problem solved.

The paint job on the new ones have excessive paint in the dovetail grooves, you have to sand away the inside groove surface for proper grip. Mine was all over the place too, you could see the rings werent sitting right when tourqed down.
Then drop in some red loctite to seal the deal. Shes bush worthy now.

"Borrow" your wife's clear-coat nail polish, apply it to the rail just before attaching the rings, attach the rings to the rail while the clear-coat is still wet, tighten, let dry.

thumbs up for the utg scope ring mount. Solved my scope walking issue on my 795.
Another method I use that hasn't been mentioned here thus far is using a fine tipped center punch and putting a small dimple into the edge of the rail gently just behind and in front of the edge of the scope ring bases. To do that instead of using a hammer, take a hard handled screw driver, grip the end of the shank and tap the center punch.
I have the same issue. Whenever I shoot mini mags it walks back. Usually I just move it back and tighten it until I think it's about to strip.
Any chance you're willing to post a picture of the tapped receiver? I'm scared to try it because I don't know that it has enough steel to tap.
My buddy with his 795 and my 70 (older version of the 795) both use the Hawk ring mount. Small divot drilled a small distance in the receiver top to allow the anchoring set screw from the mount and no more mount, ring recoil walking.
